BETTER QUALITY AND SAFER ROADS

One of the main reasons for damages on the roads are the overloaded trucks. The weigh-in-motion technology helps preventing this and can be used for both private and public purposes related to the weights and axle loads of road and rail vehicles. The weigh-in-motion sensors are installed on the road or rail rack and are used to store and provide data from the real time traffic flow, without the necessity of stoping or changing the route of the vehicles. WIM systems measure the dynamic axle loads of the vehicles and try to calculate the best possible estimate of the related static values. The WIM systems have to perform unattended, under harsh traffic and environmental conditions, often without any control over the way the vehicle is moving, or the driver is behaving. As a result of these specific measurement conditions, a successful implementation of a WIM system requires specific knowledge and experience.

Main applications of weigh-in-motion include:

  • Collection of statistical data for the road usage;
  • Pre-selection of vehicles that require full inspection in case they seem to be overloaded;
  • Direct enforcement of overloaded vehicles, without the presence of enforcement team;

Our experience in weigh-in-motion stations include:

  • Design of WIM locations;
  • Site survey and selection of suitable place and road surface for installation of WIM;
  • Preparation and installation on the road of WIM sensors and/or inductive loops;
  • Configuration and calibration of WIM;
  • Preventive maintenance
